Virtual Learning at the SMFA

Hone your craft with virtual demonstrations and critiques

Our artist-instructors are expertly harnessing technology for live discussions of art theory, video demonstrations of technique, and enhanced artwork critiques and reviews. Pictured above, instructors provide mark ups and visual aid for students, allowing students to save these comments and visual notes to bring back to their individual work-time. Look forward to the end of the session, where you may even get the opportunity to see your work ‘exhibited’ virtually in your favorite museum.

Artists/Innovators: Spring 2020 Exhibit

Art touches us, informs us, inspires us and begs us to learn more.

In a very short span of time, society has had to learn new ways to live, function, teach and learn. Like students everywhere, SMFA CE students were required to innovate, express, work and comprehend in new ways. Our Spring 2020 CE students came together to produce a virtual exhibit to display the semester's work. The artwork in this exhibition reflects what our community has felt and learned, and our ability to continue to make art, because that is what artists do.

Hear from our Spring 2020 students!

...the individual instruction was, if we wanted it to be, audible to all of us, so we actually had more access to instruction in the new format. It was a great class and I learned a lot. My watercolors improved a lot.

I really enjoyed staying connected with my classmates and instructor through the virtual campus. It was a great opportunity to learn new technology, continue my design studies, and even provided a time of relaxation amidst the uncertainty.
