Meet our Program Leads


Calvin Zhao, Program Lead

Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life

Calvin Zhao is the Student Programs Administrator at Tufts’ Tisch College of Civic Life. In his role, he directs the Leadership for Social Change program, oversees the FOCUS Pre-Orientation program, advises student groups on campus, and manages the Tisch Fund for Civic Engagement. Prior to assuming this role, Calvin coordinated the Tufts 1+4 and Tufts Civic Semester global programs at Tisch, supporting students as they engaged in community-based work abroad. Calvin also worked for 3 years at NYU Shanghai, a sino-US joint venture university in Shanghai, China, involved in various student support and community engagement roles. Outside of work, Calvin is busy pursuing his M.A. in Diversity and Inclusion Leadership at Tufts and spending time outdoors, when he can!

Lian Lucansky, Program Lead & Program Coordinator

School of Arts and Sciences

Lian Lucansky (she/hers) is from the Chicago suburbs and has always been curious about the way the world works and humanity’s place in it. She earned her B.S. in 2018 from Loyola University Chicago in Environmental Science with a concentration in Communications & Advocacy. She has since worked in Communications and Outreach for both environmental and social justice nonprofits. In addition to being the CRI Program Lead, Lian is also the Program Coordinator for the Environmental Studies Program here at Tufts. She's very excited to meet this year's CRI Cohort and discuss your latest crafting interests and swap great pet photos.

Phoebe Sargeant, Program Lead

University College

Phoebe Sargeant is the director of the Pre-College International Relations Intensive Program. She also works as an administrative coordinator in the Tufts Political Science Department. Phoebe also attended Tufts University, where she received her BA in History in 2021 and her Masters in the Arts of Teaching for High School History education in 2022. While attending Tufts University, Phoebe participated in the Laidlaw Scholars Program where she completed research on the historical memory of the American Revolution. This research was later published as Phoebe’s senior thesis and investigated the origins and propagation of myths of the American Revolution and its connection to 20th century curricula. For the past five years, Phoebe has also worked for the Freedom Trail Foundation, where she leads tours of the Boston Freedom Trail, portraying historical figure Margaret Kemble Gage. Outside of work, Phoebe enjoys playing her cello, visiting museums with her fiancé, and rewatching The Xfiles.

Tufts Summer Accelerator


 

This program is designed to provide students with a chance to immerse themselves in the Undergraduate experience, allowing highly motivated students to engage in their own academic interests and develop their own ideas. Students enroll in 2 college-level seminars per 2-week session, designed specifically for high school students. These seminars are small (15-20 student), discussion based, interactive sessions in subject areas from across the University. 

Choose from a variety of seminar topics including Social Psychology of Prejudice, Discrimination, and RacismRussia's war on Ukraine: why, why now, and what's next...Introduction to Children's MediaArt, Truth, and Misinformation, and many more.
