Course Description

Major works of Molière, Racine, Madame de La Fayette, and La Fontaine. Examination of the thematic and stylistic innovations of 17th-century literary works by exploring the chief literary forms of the time: drama, fables, and the novel. Exploration of the relationship between cultural forms and power at the court of Louis XIV. Prerequisites: French 31 and 32, or consent.
