Course Description

We are connected to our surroundings whether it is familiar environs (that constantly surprise), or a new space, or location we may see for the first time. The impulsive, intimate responses to the visual world may be ends in themselves or the genesis for larger developed works - or a focused series. Personal marks and passages, translating that visual world, are unmatched in their enduring “poetic memory”. Join us for a personal discovery with each painting or drawing and make the sketchbook a constant companion of any journey near or far or within. We will work with options and individual choices including dry or wet materials: pencils, charcoal, pastels, ink, water-based paint such as gouache or acrylics as well as oils. Each material will be discussed in terms of on-site vs. inside respective space or studio. Periodic virtual contact during the stages of the creative process will be important to nurture trust in the process. Some experience is recommended – the only requisite is curiosity. All levels are welcome.
