Course Description

The provision of school services to support the child with specialized learning needs is governed by federal and state legislation. The practical issues related to educationally relevant service provision in light of current legislation. Topics include service eligibility, developing educationally relevant service plans, the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) process, models of service provision, the environmental context, inclusion, collaborative team building, the family as team member, issues related to diversity, transitions from early intervention to adult services, and policy development. Seminar format with class discussions.
