Course Description

This course provides undergraduate and graduate level students with a foundational understanding of mental health service delivery in pre-k – 12 schools. This course is beneficial for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in working within school-based practice, research, and advocacy. This course is also beneficial for current educators and youth advocates. Students will be introduced to systems level perspectives of mental health promotion including multi-tiered systems of supports (MTSS), positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS), and socio-ecological models. Through a lens of cultural humility, students will explore protective factors and risk factors among youth, develop an understanding of current best practices in school-based mental health, and explore how they can promote social-emotional well-being within their work as educators.
