Course Description

Continuation of CHEM 0051 Organic Chemistry I. Structure, properties, and reactions of alkenes, alkynes, conjugated unsaturated systems and aromatic compounds. Radical reactions.Mechanisms, retro synthetic analysis and synthetic strategy. Additional topics such as the chemistry of carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, and nucleic acids. Two 75-minute lectures, one recitation. (Note: The laboratory course, CHEM 0054 Organic Chemistry II, is normally taken concurrently with CHEM 52 Organic Chemistry II Lab.) Prerequisites:  CHEM 0051 Organic Chemistry I (or a similar course).

Basic Enrollment Requirements: 

Academic Year (Fall/Spring): Unofficial Transcript – High School Diploma or current high school transcript (for high school students only in applicable classes), Bachelor’s Degree, or progress towards a Bachelor’s Degree + 3.0 GPA.
