Course Description

Propagation of electromagnetic waves; geometrical optics; polarization; optical properties of insulators and semiconductors; Fraunhofer and Fresnel diffraction; interference; Fourier optics. Lectures and laboratories. Graduate level credit requires additional work, such as the completion of a technical project paper and an oral presentation.Recommended: PHY 2 or 2N or 12 or 12N. Corequisite: MATH 42 (formerly MATH 13)
