Course Description

Conflict is a fact of organizational and community life. Most never learn how to work productively with tensions stemming from differences in perspectives, values, and life experiences. In this practical, applied course, we will explore the continuum of conflict resolution from prevention to intervention, learning about techniques such as negotiation and mediation which can be used to navigate existing conflicts. We will examine conflicts existing at interpersonal, group, organizational, and community levels. Students will increase self-awareness about habitual conflict behaviors; learn how to interpret conflicts through lenses of cultural and power; learn practical methods and techniques that can be used in school, at work, and at home; and develop skills through discussion, experimentation, and reflection.
