Developed in partnership with The Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
In today’s evolving food industry, understanding how to market products effectively while maintaining trust and compliance is critical. This course will introduce you to concepts, tools, and techniques needed to effectively identify consumer needs, assess competitive landscapes, and develop ethical, evidence-based marketing strategies in the food sector. Through engaging lessons centered on case studies and applied frameworks, you will explore how businesses craft compelling messages, leverage media ecosystems, and engage with key stakeholders. The course also emphasizes regulatory compliance and consumer transparency, ensuring that marketing efforts align with industry best practices. By the end of this course, you will be better prepared to execute strategic marketing initiatives, communicate effectively with diverse audiences, and make data-driven decisions in food marketing environments.
Marketing to Food Consumers is one of three related courses comprising a series of skills related to Nutrition in Industry. These courses are part of a portfolio of Nutrition related micro-credentials.
Course Learning Objectives:
- Identify key consumer behaviors and market segmentation strategies to tailor effective food marketing campaigns.
- Practice analyzing the impact of SWOT analysis on food marketing decisions, including identifying opportunities, competitive positioning, and risk mitigation.
- Practice developing strategies for creating and delivering regulatory-compliant marketing content that aligns with ethical and legal standards.
- Practice assessing the effectiveness of inbound and outbound marketing techniques in reaching food consumers while maintaining transparency and trust.
- Practice integrating stakeholder engagement, digital media strategies, and consumer insights to drive successful food marketing initiatives.

Completion Requirements:
This course is online and self-paced. Learners who enroll for the course ahead of the course start date will be given access to the course on the listed start date. For learners who enroll after the listed start date, access to the course will be given within 72 hours of enrollment, please lookout for an email invite to the course content. Learners will receive 8 weeks to complete the course and upon successful completion receive a digital badge.
