An examination of many jazz forms, such as blues, modal, bebop, and contemporary. Selected composers include Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Horace Silver, Mulgrew Miller, Duke Ellington, and Wayne Shorter. Techniques for memorizing melodies and chord changes. Study of the theory and meaning of improvisation through practice-based learning.Recommendations: MUS 101 or permission of instructor.
