Course Description

(Cross-listed as PJS 2). Thematic survey of major artists, monuments, and materials from the Renaissance to the present. A historic thread underpins an exploration of dominant themes in the Western tradition of visual art including nature, the body, politics and protest, gender, race, representation, and religion. Exploration of pressing contemporary issues like climate change, de-colonization, who is commemorated through public art, the art market, and museum ethics.
