“It is a wonderful thing to draw a human being that lives, it is confoundedly difficult, but after all it is splendid.” - Vincent van Gogh.

In this short course students will expand their observational drawing skills learning how to depict the human figure/nude more accurately. Working from the “INSIDE/ OUT”, the basics of human anatomy will be covered starting with the skeletal and moving on to the muscular systems emphasizing structural landmarks. Students will focus on applying this knowledge by simplifying light and shadow to create shapes, allowing you to build the observed nude with greater accuracy and achieve a likeness as we will cover portraiture as well.

The instructor will be present for the entirety of the short course and will guide you through brief lectures, demonstrations, and individual and group critiques. The nude, the figure in space, and the portrait will be covered through short and long poses with the live model(s).

Level: Beginner to intermediate. Some drawing experience required.
