Course Description

Learn the mechanics of exhibition production by planning and installing an exhibition from start to finish. Collectively, students determine the exhibition’s thesis, conduct research, write text, prepare objects, design the layout, and install the contents in time for a public reception at the end of the semester. Coursework addresses setting curatorial and educational goals, investigating design options, identifying audience needs and interests, and solving technical installation challenges. In addition, students select objects, arrange loans, and develop and implement marketing strategies. Guest speakers and site visits provide access to the latest trends, issues, and technological advances in exhibition design and development. Prerequisites: ED/FAH/HIST0285 plus one other museum studies course”
