Creative Dance for Children

Course Description
Experiential class offering techniques and theories involved in teaching creative dance for children.Laban movement literacy; developmentally appropriate lesson planning and sequencing; art- and dance-related educational theories; classroom management techniques. How dance simultaneously activates physical, cognitive, social, and affective domains of learning, and how children learn through a balanced integration of the body, mind, and spirit. Includes classroom observation of pre-k dance classes and guest sessions with dance therapists and educators from the Boston area. Recommendation: DNC 71 or familiarity with child developmental theory. Cross-listed with CSHD 178.
Basic Enrollment Requirements:
Academic Year (Fall/Spring): Unofficial Transcript – Bachelor’s Degree or progress towards a Bachelor’s Degree + 3.0 GPA.
Summer Session: None.
