Description: The Tufts University European Center’s Tufts Summit Program is a four-week academic enrichment program for rising high school juniors and seniors that takes place at Tufts’ beautiful alpine campus in Talloires, France.  Situated on the banks of Lake Annecy in the foothills of the French Alps, the European Center’s 1000-year-old campus offers students an extraordinary site for academic and personal growth.

The Tufts Summit students take two courses:  “International Relations in a Changing World,” a college level course on International Relations that looks at the complex world of international politics and diplomacy, and “La Langue et la Culture Française,” an intensively interactive French language and culture course that emphasizes listening comprehension and speaking as well as daily French usage, expressions and pronunciation.  Day trips to international organizations in Geneva, Switzerland and cultural sites in Lyon, as well as excursions into the Alpine countryside enable students to gain an insider’s view of a world most know only from books and newspapers.

Tufts Summit students are encouraged to challenge their physical abilities as well as their minds. Weekly outdoor activities, such as organized hikes into the local mountains, introduce students to another outstanding aspect of this alpine region — its extraordinary beauty and unique environment.

Students live with carefully selected host families, most often with another student. The home stay is an integral and memorable part of the Tufts Summit experience and results not only in improved language skills, but also enduring friendships with French host families
